  • 1 pre-packaged elderberry cough syrup mix (organic elderberries, dried ginger, cloves, cinnamon stick)

  • 1 8.5oz flip-top lid bottle
  • 1 Cheesecloth

Step 1: Sanitize Glass Bottle

Before making your elderberry cough syrup, lets get you prepared in packaging up your own cough syrup to safely store for some time. So that means we need to sanitize our glass bottle.

To sanitize the bottle provided (and remember you can you any 8oz or above glass container you wish to use) just boil a large pot of water and submerge the flip top lid bottle we provide. Make sure to completely submerge the bottle and boil for 10 minutes. Then remove glass bottle from boiling water with tongs and allow to air dry while your elderberry is cooking.

Step 2: Boil the Elderberry Cough Syrup Mix

Next we start the elderberry syrup. We need to add our distilled water to a small saucepan, mix in the elderberry cough syrup prepackaged mix provided, cover and bring to a boil.

Once boiling, then uncover and reduce heat and simmer for 30-45 minutes.

Step 3: Strain Herbs

After allowing to simmer for 30-45 minutes, then its time to strain the herb mixture. Grab the cheesecloth provided and your glass measuring cup and lay the cheesecloth across the glass and carefully squeeze out the liquid, caution it may be hot. We used a mesh strainer inside our measuring glass and squeezed the cheesecloth into the mesh strainer. Squeeze out everything you can and then discard the used herbs. And allow liquid to cool to just above room temperature.

Step 4: Add the Raw Honey

Once your liquid has cooled a bit, then we add in the liquid gold, the raw honey that is and stir well until its completely mixed into the liquid.

Step 5: Package up Elderberry Cough Syrup

Next we need to pour our Elderberry Cough Syrup into our sterilized glass bottle. Don't forget the label and date the bottle. Store in the fridge for up to 2 months.
